I want to know if metal roofing is more affordable then shingles. I know metal roofing is louder when it rains but if I can save a few grand so what. Is it worth the thrash? My house was built in ’92 and my shingles are already curled up from the heat. I don’t even live in the south where it gets really hot.
How effective is the warranty on roofing shingles?
I have heard that they are pro rated, that you don’t get your full money back and that new shingles are far more expensive than older shingles were! Is it even worth pursuing warranties on shingles that are starting to curl that are 18 years ancient that were 25 year shingles?

Uneasy about roofing with coated metal shingles over wood shake?
I am plotting to place a steel shingle roof over a wood shake roof.
I will add a 1 1/2 inch insulation blanket with radiant foil in between the 2 by 2 supports.
Two questions.
Does leave-taking the shake under the steel make the roof more susceptible to fire
Should the foil on the insulation go up or down. If up it is touching the steel. If down it is a 1/2 inch above the shakes.
