Best roofing material for rain/snow protection?
We live near Seattle. It rains a lot. It snows on occasion, not usually hard. Seldom, there are windstorms and we have lots of tall trees that like to drop their branches during such storms. Our roof has a pretty normal pitch.
What roofing material would last the highest, require the least maintenance, be simple to repair, and really be the best damn investment into a home we plot to be in for a long time? Any articles you recommend we read?
Thank you!
How much is it per Square foot (on average) to replace a roof (materials and labor seperate) in Long Island,NY

What is that roofing material thats like a 6″ wide tape that’s like thin coat of black tar on aluminum foil?
It’s sold in rolls. I’ve seen it 4", 6", and 12" wide. It’s like a 1/8" thick sticky black tar on aluminum foil.
They sell it at roofing material stores and some lumber stores.
Thankfulness.
Rolled rubber roofing material, where can I buy it?
I’m looking for a retail dealer in east Texas that sells rolled rubber roofing material at least 8 ft. wide.
What is the linear coverage (length) of a roll of double coverage roll roofing material?
How many feet long is a roll of double coverage roofing material?
where can i find and compare prices on roofing and insulation materials?
I’ve found lots of building forums and general "building advice" columns that go over very high-level pros/cons to choosing roofing material and insulation options, but I want a site where I can see hard expenditure of ordering each of the materials so I don’t have to call up a ton of contractors or dealers. Does such a comparison site continue living? Everyone offers quotes, but that takes too much time to apply for quotes to every dealer.
I’m specifically interested in knowing what green options I can afford (cotton batting vs. formaldehyde-free fiberglass, etc.).
BTW, Home Depot and Lowes web sites don’t have any roofing products (like asphalt shingles) listed and generally don’t carry many green options (like cotton insulative batting).
We need to replace roofing material-shingles or the metal ones that seem to be getting popular-?
We have a simple 2 tale farmhouse in the midwest US. Anyone have pros and cons on roofing materials, as to cost, durability, etc.? Thankfulness a bunch!
