I have picked some steel roofing out and I was wondering what price range I should expect to get. I have two very simple gable roofs one is 17sq. and the other one is 8 sq. I am plotting on going over existing shingles, so no removal is needed. I am going to buy all the materials at a local steel supplier.

I know rain is somewhat a mixed blessing: rain is BAD in that it delays a contractor from working, yet it is GOOD because it wears on the roof building an otherwise excellent roof in need of repairs/replacement sooner (lengthens, yet increases, backlog).
In terms of heat (not so much extreme heat, but just hot weather): Is it excellent, terrible, or mixed (as it is with rain).

To roofing contractors: how much difference is there between a 15lb felt, 30lb felt, and/or water+ice shield?
I am re-responsibility my roof with a roofing contractor, but I’m not sure what are the best options available. I want to know if a 15lb felt can do the same as a 30lb felt or a water and ice shield. Or, is one option better than a further? How effective is a water and ice shield? What is the best, yet cheapest option?
